Dueling Demi Balloon Arches for a Bar Mitzvah at Central Synagogue
For a bar mitzvah celebration at Central Synagogue in Midtown East, we built a pair of dueling demi arches: two bold, multicolor half arches rising from either side of the entrance and reaching toward each other to frame the way into the party.
A bar mitzvah is one of the biggest days in a family's life, and the decor sets the tone the second guests walk in. For this celebration, the goal was an entrance that felt joyful, bright and full of energy, without closing off the walkway. Two demi arches did exactly that. As a women-owned, Chelsea-based studio with 45+ years of experience, we designed, delivered and installed the full piece on-site in Midtown East.

A demi arch is a half arch. It starts as a tall column on the floor and curves over at the top. Dueling demi arches are two of them placed on opposite sides of an entrance, leaning in toward each other with a gap left open in the middle.
The pair frames a doorway like a full balloon arch, but feels lighter and more playful, and the open center keeps the path clear for guests. It's a great option when you want a big entrance moment in a hallway, foyer or event space.
The Design: Bright, Bold and Full of Color
Both arches were built in an organic style, with balloons clustered in mixed sizes instead of even rows, so the shape looks full and dimensional from every angle. Here's what made this look work:
- A full-spectrum palette โ red, orange, yellow, green, teal, blue, purple and pink, all mixed together
- Black accents โ small black balloons tucked throughout so the brights really pop
- Varied balloon sizes โ large statement balloons paired with small fillers for that organic, cloud-like texture
- An open center โ the two arches lean in at the top but stay apart, keeping the walkway clear
Planning your own palette? Bright multicolor is just one option. We also design in soft pastels, school colors and metallics. Browse every shade on our balloon color chart, or send us a photo of your theme and we'll match it.
